El Asedio de Arturo Pérez Reverte

La historia de varios personajes y una ciudad donde, a modo de piezas de ajedrez sobre un tablero peligroso, todos esos hilos se relacionan entre sí.
«Escribo lo que veo, lo que leo y lo que soy. No es una novela histórica ni sobre la guerra de Independencia. Es Asedio una novela llena de peripecias; hay un enigma central de tipo científico, un desafío que planea por toda la historia. Transcurre en el Cádiz del asedio francés, pero es una novela de personajes, de varios personajes con distintas historias cuyas vidas se van cruzando y cuyas actitudes y conflictos enlazan directamente con ahora. Hay una trama policíaca, de espionaje, y otra científica, y otra folletinesco-romántica, y otra marina, y otra aventurera. Vamos, todo Pérez-Reverte. Como si toda la bahía de Cádiz fuera un inmenso tablero en el que los personajes de la novela se mueven como en una partida. La guerra, la Constitución, la parte histórica son sólo el telón de fondo, pero no el objetivo de la novela; no hay nada didáctico en ella. Cada tema tiene un personaje que representa una parte de la historia; se van cruzando, todos convergen. Están todas mis novelas que he escrito están aquí» Arturo Pérez-Reverte.
